Life at Glen Oaks is never quiet - there is always something to do! If we are not looking after the garlic and finger limes or making them into jam or powder, we are making chutney, mowing the lawns, walking the dogs, checking the sheep and chickens or having a drink at the end of a hard day. So much for a relaxing retirement!
Since 2023 we have updated all the infrastructure (fences, water tanks, watering systems), planted numerous fruit trees, established a large herb garden, planted blueberries, raspberries and boysenberries, installed and planted 15 raised garden beds for all our vegetables, planted dozens of native and bush tucker plants, and raised goats, sheep, geese and chickens.
We now only raise chickens and sheep, as while the others were fun to watch and interact with, they are too high maintenance not to mention messy – just picture goose poop everywhere!
We are also extremely lucky to have an amazing array of wildlife living with us on our 5 acres or nearby on one of the adjoining properties. We love waking up to the sound of Kookaburras laughing, seeing Wedge Tailed or Sea Eagles flying overhead, and watching deer, wombats, wallabies and echidna wandering around enjoy themselves. We won’t mention those silent slithery things that visit occasionally.
Since moving to Greendale, we have been blessed with the friendliness, support and giggles we’ve had with our wonderful neighbours throughout the Valley.
